WEDDING IN THE WORLD
Wedding is a new initiation for a Hindu woman. There are eight types of wedding ceremony. The first is the Rite of Brahmana which is considered as the most noble of the eight marriages where the father of the bride invites a man learned in the Vedas and a good conduct, and gives his daughter in marriage to him after decking her with jewels and costly garments. The man must have attained the age of 25. The bride is adorned with complete sixteen accessories called Sohlah Shingar. Here the proposal comes for the girl and the groom makes the holy vows.
The wedding ritual is similar to a dance, when the bride and groom are moving together. Later on they make together seven steps on seven bags of rice and finally sprinkled with the holy water to bless them.
