Marriage forms and effects

CURIOSITY

The marriage influences greatly the economy along with the separate family members, such as children and spouses (both legally and socially).

In Italy there are two forms of marriage:
civil and religious with the civil basis. The religious weddings in Italy are celebrated in a religious confession in the presence of a Catholic pastor (officially confirmed institutions).

The marriage valid only for the religious purposes is called canonical marriage.

Currently this marriage form is recognized when celebrated in the below religious confessions:

  • Catholic church (religious marriage);
  • Board; Union of the Seventh-day Adventist Churches;
  • Union of Jewish Communities;
  • Assemblies of God;
  • Union of Italy;
  • Lutheran Church in Italy

As of 4 April 2007 the Republic of Italy has stipulated another list of such religious confessions that however have not been ratified.

These are the additional institutions:

  • The Holy and Sacred Orthodox Archdiocese of Italy and Esarcate for Southern Europe (orthodox Christians that belong to a parish under the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople);
  • Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses;
  • Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (mormons);
  • Hindu Union - Sanatana Dharma Samgha
