WEDDING IN THE WORLD
Christian Orthodox wedding ceremony is quite different from the Catholic one.
The key element of the Orthodox wedding ceremony is crowning, which is the climax of the wedding service. The crowns are being held above marrying couple’s heads and then later may be placed on their heads as the ceremony goes along.
Orthodox theology considers the marriage a sanctuary of soles that should last forever, rather than a legally bounding agreement. Thus it is possible to celebrate another wedding by means of a penitential rite, which is kept very simple in keeping with the nature of the wedding liturgy. Men married more than once are banned from priesthood. The second wedding is being tolerated only in case of scarce understanding of the holy meaning of the previous one and complete change and responsible approach towards the new marriage.
The wedding consists of:
- the engagement, wedding vows and rings exchange
- the crowning ceremony
the eternity dance
